Guadalajara, Jal.,November 2021.- Paula Badosa arrives at the #AKRONWTA Finals in Guadalajara following a historical achievement last month: she was the first female Spanish tennis player to raise the trophy in Indiana Wells (WTA 1000). Badosa had to beat none other than Victoria Azarenka, one of Badosa’s idols, in order to reach one her dreams.
Although Badosa is in the midst of one of her best months on tour, she has recognized that the path was not always easy. “There are people who are not aware of what it takes to get to the top; I have suffered moments of depression. But those moments have taught me to fight for my dreams and in the end, I am here,” Badosa said during an interview in Spain just before traveling to Guadalajara.
Just like six other players at this prestigious event, Badosa will make her Finals debut. This year, in addition to winning the title in Indian Wells, she won the tournament in Belgrade and reached the semifinals at the WTA 1000 in Madrid and in Charleston, both in April. After, she reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros and the fourth round at Wimbledon.
Badosa, who will be celebrating her 24th birthday on November 15th, is going to be a serious contender to lift the Billie Jean King trophy.
