Guadalajara, Jalisco. November 7, 2021.- The best players in the world have arrived in Mexico to participate in the AKRON WTA Finals Guadalajara 2021. The tournament is set to begin this Wednesday, November 10th at the Metropolitan Complex of Tennis.
The Czech doubles team, Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova – who will be the number one seeds at the event – were the last players to arrive in the capital of Jalisco. Like the rest of the players, they received a warm welcome upon their arrival which included a mariachi band.
Krejcikova will not only play in doubles alongside her compatriot, but she will also compete in the singles; she placed third in the singles “Porsche Race to the WTA Finals.”
The Czech star has an outstanding year – she started 2021 ranked number 65 in the world rankings. After winning tournaments in Strasbourg, Prague, and the French Open (where she stunned Elina Svitolina, Coco Gauff, Maria Sakkari, and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova), as well as consistent performances throughout the year – Krejcikova leaped to number three in the world rankings. Additionally, she won the doubles at Roland Garros with her partner Katerina Siniakova along with the won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Barbora Krejcikova is the only player in the draw who will compete in both the singles and doubles events. She is also the only player in the draw who participated at the Billie Jean King Cup that place last week in Prague, Czech Republic.
Other players who arrived today at the airport in Jalisco was Ena Shibahara and Shuko Aoyama from Japan. The two players will play together in the doubles portion of the tournament where they stand as the second seeds.
