Guadalajara, Jalisco, November 14, 2021.- In a match that was defined in A super tiebreak, the Czech-born American Nicole Melichar-Martínez and the Dutch Demi Schuurs, were the second team out of the Tenochtitlán Group to qualify for the semifinals of the AKRON WTA Finals Guadalajara 2021 doubles tournament.

In the match for second place in the group, the No. 4 seeds surpassed the Croatian Darija Jurak and the Slovenian Andreja Klepac, who were ultimately eliminated from the tournament by a score of 6-4, 3-6, 10-2.

The first set was dominated by Melichar-Martinez and Schuurs who started the match with a pair of service breaks on Jurak’s serve, which determined the course of the first set showing why they conquered the tournaments in Charleston and Doha this year.

As for the second set, things were reversed, with a determined Andreja Klepac and Darija Jurak – they broke Melichar-Martínez’s serve twice, to equalize the score and force the match tiebreaker.

After a long break requested by the American and Dutch, they returned to the court with renewed spirits for the super tie break. Despite suffering a mini break at the beginning of the tiebreak, they ended up getting a total of five breaks, four of them on Darija Jurak’s serve to set up a match point which Demi Schuurs took full advantage with a her serve and volley to close it out

Melichar-Martinez and Shuurs are expected to play against the first place team of the El Tajín group, the Japanese pair Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara.
